An economical source of magnesia in clay bodies and glazes. A major constituent in low fire bodies. Added to lower the melt point temperature and increase thermal shock resistance. In glazes, it is used to produce opaque and matte glazes. This material is in limited supply as the mine has closed.
WARNING: Contains free crystalline silica, which could lead to silicosis or other lung diseases after very long exposure.
