Saturated color, dependability, and versatility make Amaco Velvet Underglazes as popular for professionals as they are for children. Velvets fire true-to-color as a Cone 05-06 underglaze or with some changes when fired to Cone 6. Some colors remain true as high as Cone 10.
Try two finish possibilities: When left unglazed* these colors have the rich textural appearance of velvet; when covered with clear overglaze they intensify in color. They can be easily applied to wet clay, leatherhard greenware, or mature Cone 04 bisque pieces. Amaco Velvets are mixable and can be used to create painterly, crisp, or airbrushed finishes.
*Pieces with unglazed Velvets are not food safe. They must be covered with a foodsafe overglaze to be used as dinnerware pieces.
Safety Warning
Tableware producers must test all finished ware to establish dinnerware status, due to possible variations in firing temperature and contamination.
