Martha Grover - Hands on Workshop - May, 29 through 31

Martha Grover Hands - On Workshop 

Presented by Pewabic and Rovin Ceramics
Discover the idiosyncrasies of working with porcelain on and off the wheel while working alongside noted ceramicist, Martha Grover. Over the course of this three-day workshop, participants will work with wheel-thrown forms and slabs in both the soft and leather-hard stages. Martha will demonstrate various altering techniques and the addition of slabs, handles, and spouts to create an assortment of functional forms.
Topics of interest to aspiring potters include, but are not limited to, crack repair and mending, glaze application using a spray gun, and Martha’s sources of inspiration and philosophy of making.
During the workshop, Martha’s work will be exhibited in the Pewabic Contemporary Galleries (May 16 – June 29).

Warm up this winter by joining us from 11am - 4pm to build your own whimsical and wild slab teapot.  Pizza lunch will be provided, and our friends from the Tea Haus in Ann Arbor will talk with us about the tradition of tea.  Handbuilding experience is required to participate in this event.

Join us as "Ceramics Monthly 2013 Emerging Artist" and GVSU ceramics professor A. Blair Clemo demonstrates his unique techniques for creating beautiful and ornate red stoneware forms.

1/11 Kiln Workshop  ***FULL***

Introduction to Electric Kilns, 9am - 12pm. In this workshop, Christopher Reed will demystify ceramic kilns! You will learn about kiln sitters, programming digital kilns, and firing schedules. He will also talk about washing kiln shelves, pyrometric cones, and basic electric kiln do's and don'ts. 

Kiln Maintenance 101, 1pm - 4pm.  Learn to be your own kiln mechanic!  In this session, learn how to change elements, relays, and thermocouples. Also, learn how to replace damaged firebrick as well as trouble shoot electrical problems and firing errors.
