Teapot Tuesday with Jake Johnson
Cold fall days call for tea, or making teapots! Here to inspire you, is this amusing teapot by Richmond, VA based artist Jake Johnson. There are so many intriguing features about this teapot that, we hardly know where to begin. The wood fired surface of this piece is so inviting, with it's drippy ash and blushes of color. The form its self is captivating, we love the bulbous exaggerated handle, small feet peaking out from below the belly of the pot, and the way the body of the pot forms a pocket for the lid to sit within.
From the artist statement on Jake Johnson's website, he says,"By giving my work just some of the basic qualities of life--a sense of movement, growth, and breath—the pieces develop presence and take on unique personalities and trajectories. I strive to give a feeling of animation to my work that suggests gesture". Well, Jake... we can see all of that in this teapot!
