Teapot Tuesday with Chandra Debuse
Ceramic artist Chandra Debuse brings whimsy to the forefront with every colorful and bulbous piece she makes. This teapot is no different, and that is why we love it! Many artists are either wheel throwers or hand-builders, nearly exclusively. But Chandra masterfully utilizes both skill sets, and often combines hand-building with wheel throwing!
This particular teapot seems to break the unwritten laws of tea vessels... in a good way. There is no looping handle, no delicate and elegantly arching spout. The acorn hangs precariously above the "blades of grass" lid knob. Clay is traditionally static, it is hard, and a finished fired piece does not move. That swinging little acorn breaks tests the boundaries in more ways than one!
It is hard to look at this teapot and smile. For more information about Chandra Debuse and her wonderfully whimsical work, please visit her website at chandradebuse.com
