Mugshot Monday with Erica Iman

Some might call this mug by Kansas City based ceramic artist Erica Iman voluptuous, while others may look at the undulating form and soda glazed surface and feel this piece is rustic yet complex in its simplicity.  However you view this lovely mug, we are sure your eye is drawn over and over again to the rhythmic curves and creases of the form itself.

In her Artist Statement, Erica Iman references her love of landscape and geological forms. We feel this reference is very successfully illustrated in her work.  This mug in particular reminds us of rolling hills, or stones that have been tumbled and polished smooth by the sea.  Without garish color or patterns, the form of this delicious piece is undistracted and honest.
