Teapot Tuesday 7.29.14

Teapot Tuesday with Natalya Sots

Today we have a teapot worthy of the Mad Hatter's tea party!  This wacky and truly whimsical hand-built teapot by ceramic artist Natalya Sots is sure to inspire with its unique proportions, fantastical colors, and theatrical handle and legs.

Originally from Kazakhstan, Natalya began her career as an art teacher in her home country, where she was given to the challenge of developing a ceramics program for very young children.  Her goal was to teach them about the larger world of art through the medium of clay.  The techniques she utilizes today as well as the style her pieces embody are a direct result of her tenure as a teacher.  Her pieces are extremely polished and well executed, yet they exude a childlike playfulness that we love!

Natalya Sots now lives and works out of Chicago, where she sells her fanciful work at art fairs in the greater Chicago area, and through Etsy.  Though she no longer finds herself in the classroom, her teaching background has come in handy with her daughter, who loves to help her out in the studio!

For more information about Natalya Sots and her work, visit her website, and make sure you check out the slideshow of her process by clicking HERE!
