An Afternoon of Large Scale Handbuilding | Sophie Neslund

Artist Demonstration | Saturday February 29th 12:45-3:00PM

Join us as artist Sophie Neslund demonstrates the essential techniques used to make her large scale coil-built vessels. She will talk about the basics of how to build large including setting up a stable structural base, using a stencil as a guide, and other great tips to create grand masterpieces and avoid big kiln disasters! With her unique perspective, Sophie creates beautiful vibrant forms with playful and exciting surfaces. Don't miss this opportunity to boost your skills in the studio!

About the Artist

Sophie Neslund is a cat enthusiast and maker of things, in that order. In 2014 she earned her BFA in Ceramics at Alfred University, and in 2016 her MFA at the University of Cincinnati. She was a recipient of the International Sculpture Center’s 2016 Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award. Sophie has shown her work nationally, including the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati,OH, The Southern Miss Ceramics National in Hattiesburg, MS, and UFCurrents in Gainesville, FL. She is currently Ceramics Faculty at Schoolcraft College in Livonia, MI and Bulb glazing team lead at Motawi Tileworks in Ann Arbor, MI.
